OJT Day 12

February 20, 2019

In the last day we saw the final stage of the completion of the transformer replacement process in Panel III, while repairing the existing network, Engr. Darwin explained about delta connections and star connections on networks. If the line is to ground, the primary part will be connected to the star and the secondary part will be connected to the delta. But if the network is line to line, the primary part will be connected by delta and the secondary part will be connected by delta as well

After the repair is complete, we go to the staging area with Engr. Darwin, on the last day they tested us with a few questions before lunch. After lunch we returned to the main office to prepare for the engr birthday celebration. Manager Viliegas.

At 4 o'clock we celebrate engr's birthday. Viliegas with the others in the meeting room by eating some food.

OJT Day 11

February 19, 2019

Today is the eleventh day of our internship at Panelco III, and as usual we departed using jipney public transportation in the Philippines. We arrived at Panelco III office at 8 am. For OJT today we still go to the staging area with Engr. Darwin at 10 o'clock.

Before we left for the staging area, we observed the replacement of the transformer in panel III, the transformer was replaced because the current supplied from the source was too high, so to adjust it needed to add capacity to the transformer. When the current supplied by the source is too large, the fuse link will break up and will stop the electricity flowing to the transformer

In the staging area we saw the inside of the transformer, the wiring and transformer parts were covered in paper and oil, so we could only see from the outside,

The construction of the transformer inside looks very simple,

OJT Day 10

February 18, 2019

Today is our tenth day OJT in PANELCO III, as usual we are working today with the MMEE division and will be accompanied by Engr. Darwin and engr. Antonio to go to the staging area. What we are planning today is to repair a transformer that has been damaged and see the inside of the transformer.

To see the inside of the transformer, it is necessary to remove the oil that surrounds the wiring and core of the transformer. This oil is used to cool the transformer while the transformer is working. The thicker the oil is, the transformer can last longer. When we want to dispose of the oil, the suction pump that will be used to dispose of the oil is damaged, so we first repair it. The pump uses a 3 phase motorbike, but the electricity in the socket is a single phase. The technicians use capacitors to make the single phase into 3 phases.

This work takes around 2 hours, so today we only repair the pump engine. But engr. Antonio still teaches us about how the motor works. And again repeat how to test from the transformer

OJT Day 9

February 15, 2019

This is the 9th day of our internship at Panelco III. Today we were invited by the division metering shop to conduct metering installations in balung areas. We left at 9 and arrived at half past eleven, it was a long journey for us. Because urdaneta city with balungao has a considerable distance. We are accompanied by Engr. Rendy, he is an engineer graduating from PSU, and he is a very smart person.

Arriving there the technicians checked the equipment and made observations on the use of electricity at the customer's premises, then they repaired it. The first thing done by a technician from MSD is to find the path that will be used by the customer to the pole based on the amount of capacity to be used. After the path is found next is to connect the power source to the customer's MCB by replacing the cable used, this is done because the current to be used is larger than the previous one. Then connect the secondary part of the transformer to the CT primer, because the current removed from the transformer is high enough to need to be lowered to fit the household electrical equipment. Then the secondary part of the CT is connected to the meter.

The work takes about 3 hours, so this work feels heavy during a strong afternoon. This work was finished at 2pm, after that we returned to the main office.

OJT Day 8

February 14, 2019

Today is our eighth day OJT. Like the previous day we observed again in the staging area. There we were tested again to try to test the transformer that was there. While testing Engr. Antonio or we usually call sir teach us some theories about testing transformers with formulas, and what we get on campus is in accordance with the reality, so making an internship this time is proof of testing from theory with practice in the field.

A few moments after we finished testing, the team from the shop metering division came to do a test on metering in the staging area. This test is done to see whether the kwh metering that is in the staging area in panel III can be used by the customer or not. Tests carried out only provide power to the kwh metering for 40 seconds so that the metering shows that the metering indicator has calculated as much as 0.01 Kwh.

The metering shop team was very nimble, so they could test 40 meter kwh in 2 hours. We get new knowledge here, which is meter testing for customers.

OJT Day 7

February 13, 2019

Today is the seventh day we are interning at Panelco III, and as usual we departed using jipney public transportation in the Philippines. We arrived at Panelco III office at 8 am. For OJT today we still go to the staging area with Engr. Darwin at 9 o'clock. When he arrived there we exchanged information about our school and learned about Filipino language until the break arrived.

After the break after we were taught to repair the transformer. The first thing to do is transformer testing about losses, ratios and insulation. Then after testing is to see the condition of the inside of the transformer, if there is rust then it is only cleaned, but if the component is damaged then it must replace it with a component on another transformer that is not used. When it is clean and some components are replaced, the transformer is re-closed and is removed from the outer part and painted to make it look new.

The transformer repair that I did was not as difficult as what I imagined, because in reality we only cleaned and replaced the components of the transformer. This is a new science for me about repairing transformers.

OJT Day 6

February 12, 2019

On the sixth day, Engr. Leo advised us to go to the Staging area with Engr. Darwin to find out more about distribution transformers. The location of the third panel area was quite far from the main office, so to get there we needed to walk far enough.

After we arrived there we were immediately introduced to the distribution transformer. There is a transformer with a capacity of 75, 50, 32.25, 20, and 15. He explains, the use of the transformer is based on the amount of use and the current provided from the source.

Then after finishing the break we were taught to test the transformer, whether the transformer was good or bad. They use three tools to test the transformer; Transformer Turn Ratio (TTR) for to know the polarity and the ratio of the transformer, then use Transformer Lost Tester Test for to know the losses transformer when it use by costumer, and High Insulation Tester for to know the connecting the cable in resistance. And we tried to check the customer's transformer which he said was damaged. Today there are many lessons we can get.

We returned to the main office at 4 pm and waited until 5 o'clock to return to the boarding house.

OJT Day 5

February 11, 2019

On the fifth day we have now moved to another division, namely the MEED division headed by Engr. Leo P. Aquino. On our first day in this division, Engr. Leo P. Aquino explained that electrical equipment is used for the installation of substations, poles, and transformers in warehouse equipment in panelco III. He explained about some equipment, for example for grounding, fuse link, socket metering, metering kwh, CT, VT, wire, and so on.

After he finished, he invited us to visit the substation Urdaneta II which is located opposite Panelco III. There Engr. Leo explained the electricity from primary to secondary and the safety part. On the substation Urdaneta II produce a threshold of 30 MVA, and primary voltage of 69KW. The distribution network security system and substation II are the same as those in Carmen.

Then, we were invited by Engr. Jhon to observe the hourly electricity usage seen in the feeder. We observe the use of electricity in the feeder, AVR, PCB, oil temperature at the transformer, and the temperature at the transformer. Then at 3pm the trip happened, and Engr. Jhon took steps to overcome the trip, and the part affected by the trip was a remote area. That day was fun because we could learn many things.

OJT Day 4

February 08, 2019

On this fourth day at 9 am we were invited to Carmen Substation, together with sir dante and sir Sony, there we explained that Panelco III had 9 substations; 1 in Rosales, 1 in Carmen, 2 in Binalonan, 2 in Urdaneta, 1 in Umingan, and 2 in Tayug. Carmen Substation is the latest Substation made by Panelco III. Carmen Substation produced 15MVA in charge of the Carmen East area, and part of Rosales.

Carmen Substation have a Power Transformer that has 69 kV on the input side and 13.8 kV on the output side. This transformer has capacity 20/27/33 MVA. Function of this power transformer to decree to se the voltage from power plants from 69 kV to 13.8 kV, and then continued to distribution transformer for decrease become 230 V so that can used customer. The second one is AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). The function of the AVR is to maintain constant voltage and power line conditioning to the equipment load under a wide variety of conditions, even when the utility input voltage, frequency or system load vary widely. The others transformer like Potensial Transformer (PT) and Current Transformer (CT).

Than for the system protection, Panelco II have a ABS (Air Brake Switch), Power Circuit Breaker (PCB). In substation Carmen has 4 feeders and 1 main feeder, the feeder is used to monitor power usage in a region and become part of a network protection electricity system.

OJT Day 3

February 07, 2019

On this third day we were scheduled to learn about the SCADA system with Engr. Tirso Mencias, but today he did not come because he took a holiday for his birthday, so Engr. Sonny Weller suggested that we study independently. Because today is Engr. Tirso Mencias was not present so today we were accompanied by Sir Sonny and Sir Dante to re-learn how to use the QGIS application, and today was long for us, because it didn't do many new things.

But during that leisure we were able to use it by seeking knowledge about the SCADA System, the system also became one of the systems used by Panelco III to control distribution activities in the Panelco III area.

Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) is a control system architecture that uses computers, networked data communications and graphical user interfaces for high-level process supervisory management, but uses other peripheral devices such as programmable logic controller (PLC) and discrete PID controllers to interface with the process plant or machinery. The use of SCADA has been also considered for management and operations of project-driven-process in construction.

The operator interfaces that enable monitoring and the issuing of process commands, such as controller set point changes, are handled through the SCADA computer system. However, the real-time control logic or controller calculations are performed by networked modules that connect to the field sensors and actuators. The SCADA concept was developed as a universal means of remote access to a variety of local control modules, which could be from different manufacturers allowing access through standard automation protocols.

After I finished my break I filled my free time by filling out a blog and while reading the history of Panelco III. The day passed so long that we came home at 5pm

OJT Day 2

February 6, 2019

On this second day, Engr. Tirso Mencias taught us how to use the QGIS application, which accompanied us was Engr. Sony Weller and Engr. Dante Ramirez, the QGIS application is used by Panelco III to map the area, to find out the location of the pole that Panelco III has, the location of substation, and the location of the consumer. The QGIS application is connected to the Google Earth application, making it easier to mark the location of a pole.

The final goal of the project carried out by this division is to facilitate the analysis of work on voltage and current on each pole and substation. This project will be done for a long time, because the location of the poles that are scattered within the reach of Panelco III includes 16 cities and urdaneta city.

And this division uses the application of Synergy Electrical Systems to analyze the voltage at each point. This application is paid and made in Singapore, therefore we cannot learn it. The application is only used by Panelco III to analyze electricity usage on every pole and substation.
